Winds

The Wind River Range of Wyoming as it is officially tagged, is the start of day dreams for backpackers, fly fisherman, adventurers.... and apparently hang gliders?  But everyone who has experienced its immense granite boulders and massive vistas, all call it by the its nickname, the Winds.  Sweets and I will find ourselves in the dead of winter looking over the map and deciding where we want go that summer.  For a fly fisherman, the first thing coming to mind when "Winds" is mentioned, is "Goldens!".  The lakes holding these beautiful fish are a closely guarded secret, making their pursuit most of the fun.  We didn't strike gold on this trip, time was limited.  We did however, find some pretty hungry Cutts and eager Brookies.

So this winter, we'll be thinking of days like these....

The new king of the world? Rooster.  Any questions?

 Rooster seeking Brookies...

 He found 'em.

 Ricardo searching for cutts...

He found 'em.  I'm not sure if it was the harsh winter or this lake is getting over populated, but some of the fish were definitely stunted.  Some looked fat and healthy, others were on the biggest loser diet.  Eat more fish...

 Standing out in a crowd

 My favorite from the trip

Really?  Hang gliders?  Was there a problem with this?

Winter Steelhead action from the bums at AEG.  One of the better soundtracks for fish porn.

Midnight Booty Call

With the full moon we had this week and the lack of rivers available for fishing, we decided to mix things up and hit our favorite stillwater.... at midnight.  The moon did it's part, the caffeine did it's part, but as with most booty calls, the lake didn't put out as much as we would have liked.  Aaah, but we were fishing...at 2am.

Stillwaters? In July? Uncle....

This whole "river is blown out man, looks like chocolate milk" thing has gone on long enough.  There is only so much stillwater we can take, it's July 4th for heavens sake.  Even the pics look blah.  Another ho hum trip back to your ho hum lake for some more ho hum colorless fish.  Yes, we're not at work, but please take me to some local Bonneville water, moving water.  Maybe some Yellowstone cutt water?

Gear Guide Wyatt with a new Eagle Claw rod....he gets more free stuff..... hey, is that a net?

Guess what flies we were using?

So Sweets hooks and lands a slab and this is the only pic I managed not to ruin with focus issues.  Sorry Sweets, it truly was a nice fish.

Friday Popcorn Reel

This video has been around for awhile, but I like to pick video's with stellar cinematography.  In fact, next week I'll be queuing up an insane snowboard/ski video.  Below is River of No Return by Todd Moen from Catch Magazine. Enjoy.

Chromers?

Ok, not really Chromers in the Steelhead sense of the word, but when you take hatchery raised Kamloops Rainbows and turn them loose in your favorite stillwater, they tend be shiny, like fresh from the ocean shiny.  When left in your local stillwater, they grow fat and fight hard enough to spin your toon around.  We didn't tie on green butt skunks and throw perfect D loops to these guys, but we still had fun.

This guy must have been whipped by the task master

Sweets going for a "spin"

These are called filler images.  You use these when the fishing wasn't as hot and heavy as the previous week.

Happy Flag Day everyone!!
